The Mack Laing Heritage Society (MLHS) invites everyone to its ‘Art in the Park’ and plein air Annual General Meeting on Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 10 am to 4 pm, behind Shakesides house in Mack Laing Park.

This will be an art-making day at the site of Mack Laing’s former home. There will be refreshments, adventures in art for children, a nature walk for all and the pleasure of watching art-in-progress in a beautiful natural setting.

In the spirit of Mack Laing, this is a community engagement event put on by the MLHS .100% of any art sales go to the artists.

MLHS will provide refreshments, water for clean up, and “facilities” for when nature calls. There will also be fund-raising sales of special edition t-shirts and canvas bags, printed with images of original artwork generously donated to the MLHS by Brian Scott. New members are also welcome.

The AGM will take place between 1 pm and 2 pm.

Hamilton Mack Laing was a naturalist, writer and artist who settled in the Comox Valley in 1922. He studied at the Pratt Institute of Art in New York City. His artwork, writings and specimen collections can be found in the Canadian National Museum and the Smithsonian Museum.

His drawings and paintings are a legacy that bear witness to the natural history of the Comox Valley during his lifetime.

1973, Laing willed his home and land to the Town of Comox, in perpetuity, for the purpose of providing a place where ensuing generations would have the opportunity to experience the power of nature in their own lives.
